Casino boat fire leaves 1 dead

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 59%. (I'm a bot)
At least one woman was killed after a casino shuttle boat went up in flames Sunday afternoon in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida - forcing more than 50 passengers to jump overboard into the shallow water.
The woman died late Sunday hours after the fire began, while 14 other people were injured, Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point spokesman Kurt Conover said on Monday.
The woman had gone home after escaping the boat when it caught on fire, but she went to the hospital's emergency room after she became ill.
Authorities responded to the scene around 4:00 p.m. after receiving a call the San Cruz casino boat caught fire, WTSP reported.
Police released a photo and video showing the boat in flames, spitting thick black smoke into the air.
The shuttle boat carries people back and forth from the Tropical Breeze Casino Cruise, which is offshore because it can't legally operate close to land.

Cayo Perico Heist Update Review

So it’s been a few days since the update dropped so I think it’s been a good enough to let the update’s content sit and allow us to play around with everything.
To address the elephant in the room, let’s talk about the island: it is very, very, VERY underwhelming. I already made a post explaining the problems with the island, so I’ll just keep it brief: it’s all run down industrial drug manufacturing and no resort town area thingy for the tourists at the party. It’s quite unrealistic thinking about the people there and where they’re going to stay. If they wanted to make the infrastructure of the island undeveloped, then make it be like Cuba, where it’s all old timey buildings with classic cars on the unpaved roads. It’s all off-road areas, which TBH are pretty cool if you wanted some off-road/rally cars to try out BUT OH WAIT YOU CAN’T BECAUSE THE ISLAND ISN’T ACCESSIBLE IN FREEMODE. I don’t know what Rockstar was thinking when they said “an entirely new location.” When you say it like that, of course people are gonna expect it to be in freeroam so they can have fun with their friends and hang out in their cars and whatnot, and no having tiny portion of the island where you can just do what you do in your nightclub and the Music Locker, and that is to just dance and drink and entertain yourself for 5 minutes. If you try to leave the island, the guards stop you and your character automatically walks back toward the party. You can’t even sneak or swim around the guards you are just stuck at the party until you decide to go back to Los Santos. From what some people say, it’s because of the limited hardware, and that the entire island is free to explore in freeroam on the XSX/S and PS5, but very few of us have those consoles, and those who do say that claim is false. It’s just either the game is old or that Rockstar just wanted to be dicks to us, and if they did know we were expecting a map expansion, then I’d like to believe the. They really did do us dirty like that.
The very first prep/scout might be the worst mission in the entire game. All you do is take pictures of stuff you need for the heist, which is fine, except the stuff spawns in random locations and if you wanna fully complete the prep missions and get your crew completely equipped you have to find 4 of the stuff, like the bolt cutters and grapples. I like the idea of posing as a DJ’s entourage then sneaking out scope out the island. It’s cool, except for the fact the mission is goddamn awful. It’s a mandatory stealth mission, which doesn’t sound that bad, then you remember stealth in GTA is just so, so bad. “So what if it’s a stealth mission, just quietly take out everyone in your way.” That’s the problem: you can’t eliminate anyone in this prep mission, not even punch or judo chop or whatever on the guards. As soon as you get too close to any of the guards, you are spotted and instead of dying and respawning, you’re dragged back to the party (or airport, if you’re doing the prep after the first play through) and have to sneak your way back all over again. It gets pretty frustrating after awhile. To make it worse, if you’re spotted too much, you are thrown off of the island and wash up on the shores of Vespucci Beach, which doesn’t make sense geographically, since Cayo Perico is confirmed to be in the Caribbean and LS is next to the Pacific Ocean. After getting thrown off the island, you have to go back to the Kosatka, restart the prep, and do the mission all over again.
The other prep missions are somewhat of a step up from the Casino Heist preps. For one, there aren’t any missions where you have go back twice for any of the equipment; it’s a one and done deal. The missions utilize different interiors from previous updates, like the CEO office, Import/Export garage, etc. and I find that somewhat cool. The missions themselves aren’t that hard, so they should be able to be breezed through.
The heist itself was in many ways a step up from the Casino Heist, in a way. All the different kinds of approaches, entries, methods, setups, etc. made the heist very unique with different levels of replay ability. As annoying as the guards on the island are, it’s good that they spawn randomly, as to encourage more challenge and thought as to how to approach the heist, unlike the Casino where they all have fixed locations, and after a few play through you figure out the formula and breeze through it like no problem. The guards are still ridiculously hard to all kill, even with all the prep missions to weaken them done. They still have aimbot, not surprised there. There’s a juggernaut in El Rubio’s mansion, but it’s not that bad, since there’s only one that spawns, and you can just use explosives. It is a heist that encourages stealth, and is very unforgiving to those who fuck it up. The enemies are fairly weak if you do the preps, but they just swarm you everywhere, especially in El Rubio’s mansion where they flank you at all corners, and if you’re not careful, you can go through all your snacks and armors quickly.
The amount of content released day one is very underwhelming, and the drip feed line up lowkey sucks. Half of the cars showed off in the trailers and promos were actually released on launch but the rest are to be released weekly over the next few months. I get it, Rockstar wanted to artificially extend the lifespan of this update, but did they really have to make us wait weeks for vehicles we can drive around during the heist? If they wanted to drip feed some vehicles from the heist itself, make it like the Manchez scout or that ATV cause no one cares about those vehicles, well, at least I don’t. Leaving out less vehicles from the heist to be released as drip feed would leave room for some more original cars to be added or different versions of cars that need updating, like the ARENA ZR380 PLEASE JUST GIVE US A CLEAN JDM VERION OF THAT CAR. The line up of original non heist cars is actually quite solid, still fitting the theme of the update. Cayo Perico gives off some Cuban vibes, minus the whole communism thing, so it would make sense some of the cars added would be classic cars from the 50s-60s, like the Fiat 500 (Brioso 300), BF Weevil (finally, they added a better version of the Injection), and Slamtruck (if that thing doesn’t allow us to put cars on it I’m gonna get very mad).
The new clothes and outfits are nothing amazing, but there was a change I appreciate so much, and that is we can finally put body armor on other tops like hoodies, service shirts, other utility tops. Finally will I no longer have to use the merge glitch. The new armored vests tho kinda suck, since they’re just designer and don’t exactly fit anything. The new button down tropical shirts do look cool, I just wish we could unbutton them to give more of a casual tourist vibe. I just appreciate we have more ability than variety.
The weapons were ok. The military rifle looks way too similar to the bullpip and advanced rifle, so it’s nothing really special. The Perico Pistol was a cool unlock for a random event that has a somewhat painful chance to get by finding a body in LS and searching it for a key, but the gun itself is just a golden marksman pistol, needing to be reloaded after every shot. I have yet to find the combat shotgun in the heist, but I imagine it’s just a cooler looking version of the pump shotgun.
The music in this update was very meh. Didn’t like the songs on Kult FM too much, maybe because I’m not into rock that much and kinda used to listening to pop songs and some Broadway musicals here and there. Couldn’t really judge Still Slippin since I need to be in a specific area of the map to listen to it, I haven’t been around Mirror Park in awhile, so I just went back to putting the music on mute and turning on blast LMP on Spotify (Owl House fans you know what I mean). It doesn’t really help that Rockstar is drip feeding radios and music too, since Still Slippin won’t be broadcasted to the entire map until a few more weeks. Maybe when it’s finally released for the entire map then I’ll take a listen. That one Moodymann song they played for the trailer goes hard and I’m sure his other works go hard too; too bad no one goes to the Music Locker, which is literally a stripped down version of our nightclubs under the casino. Come to think of it, music and nightclubs are a major part of this update, making me think Rockstar just wanted to do an After Hours Pt. 2.
Overall, the Cayo Perico was had the potential to be one of the best updates the game has ever seen: a map expansion for us to explore, but we were given a heist with ruthless AI and mediocre to subpar content to make up for it. As it stands, it might be one of my least favorite updates, not living up to the community’s expectations whilst being quite content dry.

New Dreams and Old Nightmares

The Ravens Nest jumped out of hyperspace over the tropical planet of Rishi, the home planet for both Sairah and Toni.
“Home sweet home.” Toni murmured as he flew the Raven down below the atmosphere. Normally Sairah would be the one to bring The Raven down; However this wasn't just any visit home. No, this would be the last time Toni flies The Raven again, at least as a crew member. There was an air of bitter sweetness as Toni flew his beloved ship down to the city of New Ruugaria, a fairly large and bustling city on the outer rim planet, and home of the biggest spaceport on Rishi. The ship landed on one of the many open air landing pads that dot along the coastline, the perfect view to watch the cityscape gleam in the evening sun.
The ramp opened land lowered down, Toni and Sairah descending shortly after.
“Are you sure you don't want to stay for a little longer? I could always use an extra hand.” Sairah asked, carrying down one of Toni's duffel bags. Toni sets down his other two with a sigh before taking the other one from Sairah.
“Nah. I think it's about time I gave up the ghost. That Dantooine job made me realize I'm way too old for this job now.” he said with a hardy laugh.
In reality it was hard to admit that he could no longer keep up with what had been his life for nearly half a century. But he knows it's time for Sairah to spread her wings. That lost runaway he found in Nar Shaddaa had grown up so fast, he wondered where all those years went. She didn't need him anymore. However there was a small comfort in knowing his niece was more than capable for making a life for herself. Perhaps an even a better one than he did.
“Well.” Sairah sighed, crossing her arms and leaning against one of the ramp supports “I guess I'm really on my own now, huh?”
“Yup, you won't have an old coot like me stealing all your thunder.” Toni chuckled “But, I am gonna to miss you, kid.”
“Me too, Toni.” Sairah paused and walked down the rest if the ramp where Toni stood “And thank you... For everything, really. I don't know where I'd be withou-” Toni held up his hand to stop Sairah.
“No thanks is needed, Kid. You can thank me by leading a good life.” He said, smiling ear to ear. “And not wrecking The Raven Nest.”
Sairah laughed “Alright. No need to worry about her.”
Toni wrapped Sairah in a hug, almost like he did when she was a little girl. She returned the hug, albeit a bit stronger then she was when she was 5. After a few moments they pulled away, Toni cleared the lump that formed in his throat and rested his hands on Sairah's shoulders, looking wistfully up at the ship.
“Take care of her.” He murmured before looking down to Sairah. “Both of you.”
Sairah looked up at the ship before looking at Toni again “You're talking to the ship?”
“Yeah” he said, looking back up at The Raven Nest “ When you fly a ship for as long as I have, it almost takes on a life of its own. She's taken care of me all these years... It feels like I'm leaving two people.” Toni pulled away from Sairah and rubbed his eyes. “I better go before I get too sappy. Take care, Sairah.”
“You too.”She said.
Toni heaved the three duffle bags on a cart before a droid whisked them away. With a final wave, Toni walked away from ship and off the landing platform. Sairah watch as her uncle disappeared into the main hub of the spaceport before walking back up into The Raven's Nest.
The ramp made a hollow thud upon closing, setting a almost lonely tone in the ship. Sairah took a deep breath in, as if the weight of knowing he was truly on her own had hit her. However, she pushed that worry out of her head for now; she had another matter to worry about. She was completely exhausted. She hadn't slept since Dantooine and it was starting to show, her eyelids felt like pieces of lead, her back and legs ached beyond measure, and she yawned nearly every moment since she got on the ship.
Sairah quietly made her way to the lounge and laid down on one of the couches, barely having the motivation to walk to her quarters. She hoped that she was too exhausted to even dream, just so she could get a full night's sleep for once. She laid there for a few moments; until the silence of the ship and the sound of her own breathing finally convinced her to close her eyes.
It always the same. It's always a new dream, but it ends in the same damn nightmare.
It was warm and sunny. The waves crashed on the golden shore. The cool breeze carried the scent of spices and flowers, mixing with the smell of salt and sea air. She stood there on the shoreline; A child once more. She looked down at her small hands, tugging at her light blue sundress. She felt the sun warming her dark curly hair. She sighed, filled with with a sense of peace. She laid down on the warm sand and closed her eyes, taking in the smells and the sounds. This. This was her happy place. There was nowhere else in the galaxy she would rather be.
Her sense of bliss was suddenly cut off as an ice cold blot ran through her back. Her eyes snapped open and she sat up. Thunder claps across the sky as the sun was blotted out by swirling dark clouds, and the blue ocean churned into an inky, turbulent abyss. Sairah stood up, now filled with a sense dread and panic. She felt something, someone, staring at her from down the shore. Boring its eyes straight through her. She tries to fight it, but she can resist but to turn her head to the right. There she saw it. Saw him. A figure dressed in black robes with a cloak concealing his face. Despite his hidden features, Sairah could feel his eyes on her. She could feel him smiling at her.
Her fear turns into flight. She runs down the length of the beach, sprinting as fast as her legs could carry her. She tries to cry out for help, but only a choke can be heard. She glances back and sees him in pursuit of her. She darts in the nearby jungle, hoping to lose him in it.
“Wake up Sairah! You're in a dream, wake up. Please wake up! Wake up wake up wake up!” she screamed in her mind, smacking her face in an attempt to wake herself. But it doesn't work. It never works.
She opens her eyes again and catches herself before running off a sudden a cliff face. The dark cliffs plunged hundreds of feet straight into an impossibly black ocean. The dark rain making the stone below her slick as oil. She turns to run back; but there the figure loomed over her now. Sarah's heart jumps into her throat. Even with terror gripping her, she still fought. She threw the rocks that sat beside her that merely bounced off the figures robes. She scratched and bit and its hand came down to to grab her by her sundress. She kick, punched, and struggled as he raised her up off the ground with little effort. As he did so, Sairah could hear his dark, slickly laugh.
For a moment Sairah tried to look into the figures eyes, trying to see who this nightmare was. Although she couldn't see any, the figure had eyes. This wasn't a nightmare. It was a person. She could feel his dark presence even through this terrible dream.
Just as the moment passed, the figure drew back its arm and flung Sairah over the cliff. Sairah screamed as she fell what felt to be thousands of feet, she looked and saw the black sea coming to meet her. But just as she makes contact, Sairah finally wakes.
Her scream carries into her wakefulness as Sairah sits bolt upright on her couch. She stops when she sees she is back in her ship; her scream now replaced with out of breath pants. It felt as though her heart was trying to escape her chest as she sat there, still hoping that she truly escaped her dream. Sairah gulped and buried her head in her hands, trying to calm herself down after another nightmare.
“I'm getting more of them.” She whispered to nobody “they're getting worse.”
Sairah had dealt with these nightmares for as long as she could remember, getting them more frequently as a teenager. At first they were merely unpleasant dreams that she could sleep through, but now they evolved into horrible night terrors that ripped her from sleep. She found that alcohol dampens the nightmares, and even them stop them entirely. But she's finding that she needed more and more of it just to keep them at bay.
She looked over to a nearby clock and sighed in frustration as only 3 hours had passed. She rose from her chair.
“Time to see what's in the liquor cabinet I guess.” She grumbled.
As she made her way to her sleep solution/Liquor cabinet, she just happened to glance over to the holoterminal. There she saw she had one unanswered message. Sairah paused. she could have sworn she answered all her messages, and she wasn't expecting any job offers at this time. Sairah walked over to the terminal, curious as to what the message would be.
To her surprise, it wasn't a job offer. In fact, it was an invitation for a week long stay at a casino; and not just any casino either.
The Ace of Staves? That can't be right.”
Surely this was a scam that somehow got through the spam filter that Jackie set up for Sairah. The Ace of Staves was almost legendary in the underworld. A floating casino somehow can escape attacks and capture from the NGR, the reformation, and even the Mandalorians? Some say it's a myth, but others say it's as true as life. Toni said it was greater than all casinos in Nar Shaddaa, and with less rules too. Sairah had her suspicions though. Why would a mysterious casino give her a week long all expense paid stay anyway? She was still just a small time smuggler. Sairah ran a diagnostic scan of the message to see if it was real or just some scam to make you buy some kind of enhancement supplements.
But to her surprise, it was legitimate. %100 real. Sairah sat back in her chair in amazement. However the question still remained. Why? Why her? She contemplated just deleting the invite and moving on with her day. But somehow her intense curiosity won over her speculation.
As soon as she hit the ‘accept invitation’ button, a set of coordinates pop up on the screen. Sairah got up from her chair and walked down to the cockpit with her droid BB-77 in tow, having just rebooted from his charging state.
“BB, enter the coordinates from that invitation.” She asked. “I want find out what this Ace of Staves wants from me”.

The Tantrax Entertainment System

Hello, one and all! Welcome to the Tantrax Entertainment System. We are the foremost purveyors of all personal amusement and entertainment in all of Sector 5. Our multi-body amusement park / luxury resort encompasses three planets, four moons, and six Y-class space stations. Our diverse range of entertainment options guarantees fun for the whole family1 or for more intimate holidays.
1 Alternatively, fun for the whole pod/hive/colony

About Tantrax System

(Warning: boring science ahead!)
Tantrax Luminaris [Star #11] is a Red Giant star measuring at 1.8 solar masses and 155 solar radii, spectral type M3. Tests have determined that it is approximately 100 million years into its Red Giant phase. (Unofficially we call this star the Shining Ruby, for it is the crown jewel of our beloved system, and its warm red glow is always a welcome sight for travellers).
Tantrax Belkaris is the first planet from the sun {0.9 Earth mass, 1.1 Earth radii} was probably once a fertile and habitable world, but after the sun expanded, its atmosphere was burnt off and is now reduced to scorched rock (colour: burgundy). It is also suggested there were two other inner planets that got completely devoured by the sun's expansion.
Tantrax Akaris is the most habitable planet in the system. (If Tantrax Luminaris is our Shining Ruby, then Akaris is certainly our Gleaming Sapphire). {1.4 Earth mass, 1.3 Earth radii; atmosphere colour: turquoise} More than 100 million years ago, this planet was frozen and inhospitable, but now it is warm and fertile, teaming with life. There is one mega-continent that runs from the north to south poles, taking up roughly 20% of the planet's surface area. Due to an excess of carbon and oxygen in the atmosphere, much of the continent is tropical, though the equatorial region is baked desert that supports little life (but is great for solar panels, which power many of our attractions!). Only the extreme north and south regions are affected by seasons, where they will freeze solid in the winter but thaw almost completely in the summer. Most of the planet is ocean, with some islands nearby to the main continent, and two great mountain ranges bisecting the planet.
Akaris Principa is the first moon of Tantrax Akaris. Its size is 0.2 Earth radii and analysis of its composition suggests it should have equivalent mass. However, its gravitational field is equal to a mass of 0.8 Earth mass. This is the result of some exotic material introduced to the core to artificially increase the gravity. This allows for easy movement on the surface {within protected enclosures, since there is no atmosphere} and awesome tidal effects on the planet.
Akaris Seconda is the second moon of Tantrax Akaris. 0.15 Earth radii and 0.14 Earth mass, but for real this time.
Tantrax Athoris is the third planet in the system. {0.5 Earth mass/Earth radius; atmosphere colour: green} (the Deep Emerald to continue our celestial jewel set). This is a chlorine planet, home to clouds and seas of hydrochloric acid. Therefore it is fatal to most forms of life, but does have a few native inhabitants. It is also home to many unique rock formations and interesting mountain ranges.
Tantrax Bellerophos is the fourth planet in the system. {0.7 Earth mass, 3.2 Earth radii; atmosphere colour: yellow} (and finally comes our Sparkling Topaz). Bellerophos is a gas dwarf with a low mass given its volume, and a thick atmosphere of Hydrogen, Helium, and Nitrogen. This planet is home to the Guraga.
Bellerophos Principa is the first moon of Bellerophis. 0.1 Earth mass and 0.11 Earth radii.
The asteroid belt rings the solar system past the fourth planet and exists as a valuable source of platinum. [I won't ask you to add this to the image, ophereon]
Tantrax V is the fifth planet and is of little note. Gas giant {0.6 Jupiter mass, 0.9 Jupiter radii; atmosphere colour: yellow}
Edrephos is the first moon of Tantrax V. 0.25 Earth mass, 0.3 Earth radii.
Tantrax VI is a gas giant {1.4 Jupiter mass; 1.6 Jupiter radii; atmosphere colour: white}
Tantrax VII is a frozen outer planet {0.4 Earth mass; 0.4 Earth radii; atmosphere colour: none (grey)}

Brief History

The history of the TES stems from the joining of two unlikely allies and one remarkable visionary.
The Tantrax System was discovered 500 years ago a Centauri colony searching for a new Warp Gate. They found one a short distance outside the orbit of Tantrax Akaris. While going about the process of activating it, they established a base on the nearby moon Akaris Principa and were astonished to discover its artificially enhanced gravity. They reasoned this had to be the handiwork of the Nameless and began searching for other artifacts.
While they didn't locate much in the way of technology, they found the climate on Tantrax Akaris very favourable. Word got back through Centauri ranks and it became a much sought-after post. But everything changed 60 years after first colonization when there was a new arrival in Sector 5. Red Star Line was a company from the Centauri homeworld. It had launched two ships into a deep space, full of wealthy passengers intent on creating a luxury colony elsewhere in the galaxy.
The first ship cryonically froze its passengers, and they woke up much like their old selves. The second ship allowed passengers to live freely, and after four generations, they had descended into a life of indulgence and debauchery. The two sets of passengers were wholly incompatible and not suited for settling into one luxury resort. A few Centauri monks, along with the primary Red Star AI and some of the more intelligence passengers began discussing plans to create a permanent recreational colony. And they began to see merit in the idea of expanding it to be open to members of all different civilizations across Sector 5. But this would require several distinct parts highly varied in their style of accommodation.
After years of debate, it became clear that despite an idea and the technology, they were going to get nowhere without a keen-minded individual who could take charge of the whole operation. A routine survey of the Akari coastline would lead them to discovering just that (and the rest is history!)

Attractions

(Now that we have those details out of the way, here is what you are really after!)
The Tantrax Entertainment System boasts 3,416 individual unique attractions. You will have to download our Full Park Guide to read about them all, but you can read about our most popular destinations below.
Rassian Bay Water Park. One of our perennially popular attractions located by the picturesque Rassian Bay. The area encompasses 671 individual attractions, including water slides (regular and sonic), log rides, water cannons, whirlpools, Klein sloops, bungee jumps and hyperjumps, and the famous Akaris Aquarium that showcases 6,899 different aquatic species from around Sector 5
Rassian Bay. If you don't want to go the the water park, then the bay and ocean themselves are open for you. Due to the tidal forces, beaches average 9 km wide, so amphibious trams are available for transport. It is a prime location for surfing, although beginners are advised to stick to the training pools until certified. Underwater exploration is popular for both free and scuba diving. There is a strict precaution not to venture beyond the reef unless in a protected submersible. And all watercraft are reminded not to pass beyond the mountain range under any circumstances.
Akaris Midway. The largest contiguous amusement park in the galaxy. It features 88 roller coasters and 212 unique thrill rides, 44 entertainment venues, and 547 games of skill and chance for you to try your hand at.
Pokita and Lomba Resorts. These resorts are both located on the eastern coast of the Akaris landmass, separated by roughly 100 km of rocky coastline. Pokita is a pleasant and relaxing beach destination, where visitors can engage in nature walks, boat tours, sporting activities, and plain old time in the sun. Lomba is for guests looking for less relaxation and more intimate forms of recreation. Lomba Resort is not recommended for asexual species, as they will most likely be confused. For more information, consult the Adults-Only Park Guide.
Skyward Midway. This is another amusement park, featuring thrill rides of all descriptions. But this one, being located on the moon Akaris Seconda, takes advantage of low gravity that allows guests to explore new, dizzying heights. The most popular attraction is the Yando Slingshot, which places guests in a sphere and hurtles them into space, attached to a 20 km tether.
The Athoris Recreation Fields. Due to the highly corrosive atmosphere, there isn't a lot of infrastructure in place here, and what is in place is very carefully maintained. But between the low gravity and the extreme rock formations, it is a popular destination for athletes and climbing enthusiasts (fitted with the proper protective gear).
Bellerophos Lab & Circlet. Bellerophos Principa was originally a mine for Ha-V, but became used for an ultra-low G scientific lab. Guests can take a tour of the whole lab and see various works of Centauri engineering. But if that is too educatioal, you are welcome to take a ride on the Circlet: a roller coaster that wraps the entire circumference of the moon.
Edrephos Star Resort. Located on the distant moon of Edrephos past the asteroid belt, this is the most exclusive resort in the TES. This is for people who truly want to get away from it all. Rooms all come with glass ceilings, allowing guests an unobstructed view of the glittering stars.
Chowai Casino and Hotel. This is located on a space station in orbit around Akaris. Wealthy denizens from all across Sector 5 come to try their luck. Some will walk away very wealthy indeed. The rest will leave with beautiful memories. It also features a hotel, including a number of exclusive theme rooms.
Tantrax Relaxation Sphere. This is for guests who truly need to unwind. The top 6 levels are a spa that combines massage and relaxation techniques from several different world, adapted to numerous physiologies. To read about the lower 8 levels, please consult The Adulst-Only Park Guide.
Tantrax Convention Centre. This space station is divided into 16 separate convention spaces. All are available for booking individually or in combination. On rare occasions the entire station is booked out for a single event. The events this centre is used for vary quite widely. (As of the beginning of year 700SY, there will be an extra 50% added to the damage deposit for Penultimate Parties)

The Staff

The Red Star Line AIs are some of the friendliest in the galaxy. They come in a variety of forms, ranging from short and practical to visually appealing, and they are always happy to help. Some of the most prominent models you will encounter are Saunders, the affable concierge, Wilforth, the level-headed park manager, and Betsy, the compassionate guest services coordinator.
Although AI can serve many valuable functions, our rides often require an organic touch. We are pleased to announce 200 years of cooperation with the Guragae of Tantrax Bellerophos. These folks have a unique physiological trait which makes them only comfortable when in constant motion. This has made them perfect as the pilots for our many hundreds of fast-moving thrill rides. They can operate the rides from inside, responding calmly to any eventuality.

Transportation

Arrival at Tantrax Entertainmet System is as easy as catching a lift at your nearest Warp Gate. Once through the entry gate, a shuttle will take you to the main entrance on Akaris Principa. From there, many shuttles will be waiting to ferry you to whichever destination you choose. Hyperlane jump points make travel between the most remote parts of the system a breeze.
There is also the increasingly popular option of Doppelganger Transit. Maybe you don't have time to take a long vacation right now. You can always visit a DGT station at any participating Warp Gate. Send your consciousness through the wormhole and have it implanted into a temporary clone on the other end. The clone will enjoy its holiday while you continue with your important work. At the end of its lifespan (typically one week), its new memories will be harvested and sent back through the wormhole, where the original may download them at any convenient time.
DGT is also helpful for creating specialized clones that allow guests to explore areas they otherwise wouldn't. Acid-resistant clones have been created for use on Athoris, which means that guests can enjoy their activities there without the need for cumbersome protective suits.

A Word from the President

Over the past 400 years, the Tantrax Entertainment System has grown from a simple dream hatched on a lonely moon to the greatest tourist destination in all of Sector 5. It has been my privilege to help shape and steer TES in all this time. I could not have done it alone, of course. And I certainly could not do it without our loyal guests who keep returning to us, year after year. To all those guests, I make the simple promise: as long as you stay committed to us, we will stay committed to you.

Secrets of the Sea - Vol. 2

Vol. 1
The next thing I knew was that the boat was fighting to push forward and climb another wave. My salt-crusted eyes opened just in time to see as Kyle slammed the throttles into the furthest forward position they could be, maxing them out - and the boat lurched slowly forward in response. My whole body could feel the strain of the motors pushing against the weight of the water that now filled the boat to almost knee height. My eyes grew wider and wider as I realized the gravity of the situation - there had to be 100+ gallons of water inside the floor-space with us.
"Holy shit!" I yelped pathetically, hurriedly pulling my feet up underneath me onto the captains chair as we lurched forward and up on top of the oncoming wave; as the bow turned upward near the top of the wave, water began gushing and pouring out of the back of the boat, streaming through the gap between the motors, over the dive platform, and back to the depths from whence it came. I had to lunge and grab onto the dive bag, filled with our fins, masks and snorkels, before it joined the masses of water returning to the ocean.
While the water remaining on the floor of the boat (now only at ankle height) was busy sloshing around, trying to find a path for escape, we were still being relentlessly tossed around by the surrounding waves. It was as if the ocean was laughing at us, challenging us to a duel that she knew we could not win. To me, the sea has never been a thing, but more of a powerful entity - a goddess who was either cruel or fair, completely dependent upon her mood. And today, she was toying with us.
For some reason, this thought made me incredibly angry. Perhaps it was partly the fear wracking my brain, or the knowledge that literally thousands of people die after their boats capsize along this very coast each year, I'm not sure which - but as we continued swaying and rocking, I held on tightly to the frame of the captain's chair, and screamed out to the laughing waves, "Is that all ya got?! We are GOING to Bimini!"
Luckily for me, the din of the storm in combination with the motors struggling to churn the water all but drowned out my taunt. I can't say whether it helped us or not, but in that moment, I should have realized this was a sign. The conditions turning sour were a warning to stay away from the islands, and we, in our excitement for our long-awaited vacation, were not paying attention. Even though everything in my gut was telling me we should turn back in that moment, at that point I was so angry I was determined to reach our destination.
It will be worth it... any kind of obstacle will be worth it once we're there... I had thought, gritting my teeth.
Retrospect would aim to teach me that in reality, the opposite was true. There was nothing - not all the mountains of lost treasure or schools of trophy fish in the sea - that would be worth what we were going to face on the island.
We completed the rest of the 42 miles of our voyage fighting the storm, and only took one more wave over the bow. By the time we had reached the shore line of the island, the ominous weather and less than favorable seas we saw in the Gulf had all but disappeared. In its place was everything we loved about Bimini - clear skies, clear water, and clear minds.
We pulled through the channel at the tip of the island right at noon that first day, completing our journey in just over 3 hours. We pulled into the marina at our hotel, the Seacrest, and literally fell out of the vessel on wobbly legs. We knelt and kissed the wooden planks of the dock repeatedly, much to the amusement of the locals standing at the fuel pump at the end of the marina.
"You crazy fools crossed over on that today?" One of them called, laughing. 26' may seem like a big boat, but it really is not. Big for a lake, sure. Big for the ocean? Not a chance.
"Yep, should've turned around many times! But here we are!" Kyle answered, throwing his arms up in mock praise to the sky.
"So you are. Welcome to paradise, crazy white boy!" Another man called back to us, and the group of men laughed again, nodding in agreement.
We had to check in at customs, then unload all of our gear before we could start adventuring. We were staying on the second floor of the faded yellow hotel (much to our dismay when carrying all of our gear up and down the flights of stairs), which overlooked the marina and faced out to the east, the flats of the island. In the flats, the maximum depth was around twelve feet, and the expanse of pristine water over sparkling white sand stretched as far as the eye could see.
The island has a rich history as a known pirate island and rum running operation, then later on, a major cocaine running operation. The way the island is situated makes it a perfect location for hiding, if one knows how to navigate the water - only one entrance exists.
Because the maximum depth of the flats on the interior east of the island (where the hotel looked out over) was so shallow, and these flats extended a decent ten-twenty miles out away from the island, many a ship had fallen prey to the flats. Any ship that was unaware of the depth would have run aground in the flats, even if they came by way of the open sea. There was only one entrance to access the interior of the island, which was the ship channel at the southern tip of the island we had entered in through. This being the only entrance, it was very easy to keep track of who was coming and going from the island.
Bimini consists of three actual islands: North Bimini (where we stay) South Bimini, and East Bimini (mostly uninhabited). North Bimini itself is only seven miles long, and around 700 feet wide. There are two main roads, the King's Highway and the Queen's Highway, which run parallel to each other down the length of the island. Between the roads, the locals have built their homes and a few scattered businesses. There are only a handful of restaurants, gift shops and grocery stores in operation on the island, and their hours are subject to change. There have been several occasions when we ventured out to get a drink, or pick up a grocery item, to discover that the posted hours outside the business do not really dictate the hours - the owner does. The only way to know what is open and what isn't is to physically get down to the business yourself, or ask the locals where and when to find what you need. The one business in operation on the island that adheres to "normal" business practices is the infamous Hilton Hotel.
I say infamous because most of the locals on the island despise the hotel. The reason may not matter to some who only come to tropical islands to sip cocktails by an infinity pool, they would not understand the hatred. There are plenty of swimming pools at the Hilton. There is also a casino, several restaurants, and acre upon ocean viewing acre of luxury accommodations. The problem is that the construction of the hotel blasted its way right through the mangroves that extend around the northern tip of the islands and all the way into the flats - which make up the breeding grounds and nursery for virtually every species found in the water - effectively bringing the ecosystem to its knees.
The hotel also takes business from other, smaller hotels and restaurants on the opposite end of the island. So not only did the owners rape the island and the surrounding reefs, now they steal any remaining business from the locals.
We hardly ever make it to that end of the island when we visit, choosing instead to support the locals and local businesses - but I'll never forget the time we had bad weather for snorkeling and decided to rent a golf cart and trek to the casino for some lazy, drunken fun. When we returned and told the dock-master at our hotel where we had been, his look immediately turned dark. His happy, cheerful demeanor shifted immediately to cold and aloof.
"That place down there is the biggest money laundering outfit I've ever seen," he said, angrily. "If you're gonna rent my carts, don't take 'em down there," he mumbled, and took off around the corner of the hotel.
We were stunned into silence, but knew from then on to keep those types of expeditions to ourselves in the future.
After we had finished checking in at customs and unloading everything into the hotel room, we decided we would start our current adventure with a little late afternoon snorkeling. First we took a celebratory shot of whiskey in the room, then walked across the dusty road among the golf carts and bicyclists to our favorite bar, simply called "Toons' Place."
There are no signs outside the brightly colored building, no banner with the name or hours posted. This is because Toon's Place is always open, and I do mean always. There is also loud music blasting, huge fans blowing the hot air around, and every space of the interior is covered in dollar bills stapled to the wood. Our favorite part though, is the bartender and owner, Toons. He's that type of bartender that is always drinking and having fun with those at his bartop, and if he likes you, he's notorious for passing out free shots.
"Ayyy, yo, my white cousins!" Toons yelled from behind the bar as we walked across the sandy floor, his dreadlocks swinging wildly to the blaring music. He extended his tanned ebony hand first to Kyle, then to me, and turned immediately to pour us each a shot from a random open bottle of liquor on the bar next to him. He poured three - always one for himself - and with that, we smiled and touched glasses in cheers, then took the shots in unison.
"So you two crazy kids are back, huh? What's on the agenda today?" Toons asked, popping open a beer for another customer and handing it down the bar.
"We're headed out for some snorkeling in the front of the island, maybe shoot a fish or two," Kyle said, grinning.
"Alright, alright. Just be careful. I've heard there are some sketchy folks about this time of year. You want a drink for the road?" Toons asked, glancing in our direction as he polished off glasses and stacked them neatly.
I stopped to think, my head bobbing to the steady boom of the bass in the music. It was strange for him to mention being careful, with all the stories we had told him over the years, he knew that we knew what we were doing. I chalked it up to island superstition, as most of the residents didn't trust anyone they didn't know - especially the Cubans that frequented the casino.
"Yeah, give us two Goom Bay Smashes. And don't worry about us, we'll be on the lookout for pirates," Kyle said, winking at Toons, and handed him a twenty.
After we had our pineapple infused beverages laden with local rum in hand, we made our way to the boat. We left the marina and immediately took the channel out to the front of the island, which faced west, as the sun was beginning to sink. The sky was blue tinged with the loveliest shade of rose on the horizon, and everything was bathed in sunlight. The boat was now cutting though the water like butter, hardly any sound of effort could be heard from the motors - nothing like the conditions we experienced coming across from Florida. I sipped my drink and held on to the boat topper above my head, looking down into the perfectly calm, clear water. We drove about a mile up the shoreline and picked a spot to jump in. I donned my black skinsuit and started to de-fog my mask while Kyle secured the anchor.
We were probably five hundred yards from the beach, and I could just make out structural details on the mansion style beach houses dotted along the shore. It seemed that every one was at least three stories tall, with wraparound porches for each level, spectacular windows facing the beach, and towering leafy trees all around. All the homes were painted in bright shades of green and blue - colors of the waters just out in front of the homes. The sound of the gentle waves lapping the surface and the playful breeze combined with the sight of the ocean mansions was lulling me into a serenely calm state, and I started to hum lazily while I pulled on my fins.
We were both seated on the starboard side of the boat, one leg draped carelessly into the water and one firmly planted inside the boat before launching into our first snorkel. I closed my eyes and worked to calm my breathing, dragging my hanging leg back and forth in time to the counting in my head. Just as my breathing synced to the rhythm in my head, I happened to notice a woman standing on the top balcony of one of the mansions. She appeared to be facing us, and was wildly waving her arms in our direction.
I nudged Kyle, who was adjusting his snorkel, and pointed to the woman. She was still waving her arms in our direction. We both waited and squinted to see if she was pointing at the water - signifying a shark, and for us to stay out of the water - but she was just crazily waving us off. The more we watched, the more it dawned on us that she wanted us to leave.
A chill went up my spine.
Nobody had ever been rude in that way here before, it was too laid back on this end of the island for snooty people who think they own the water in front of their beach rental. The end of the island with the Hilton, sure. It was easy to ignore them, though, as all the ocean view accommodations also had white fences that blocked the occupant from having to see lowly peasants like ourselves actually enjoying the water.
The woman's motions began to get more frantic, as she waved us away over and over again. I could just barely hear her voice, she seemed to be yelling "leave." Now she was jumping around, seemingly desperate for us to notice her.
We looked at each other, and laughed nervously. "Crazy old bitch," Kyle said, shaking his head, "let's just get in the water and we won't be able to see her anymore." He flipped his other leg over the side of the boat and with a splash slid into the water. I watched as his shape moved slowly away from the boat and out over the brown and black splotches of reef.
I watched the woman frantically wave for a moment more, not totally convinced we should really be getting into the water. I couldn't make out any specific details about her person other than she appeared to be white and wearing all black clothing. After a few more minutes of the same thing, I sighed and resolved to join Kyle under the waves, deciding she was probably harmless.
I kicked both legs to hang into the water over the side of the boat, and pulled my mask back down over my eyes. As I slid into the water, though, I caught one more glimpse of the woman - but this last flash was different. Instead of flailing her arms wildly, she seemed to be facing a different direction, and her body language was totally different. I slid into the water - the temperature was like a warm bath - and decided to swim closer to shore to see what was going on with this crazy old bat. If I could, I aimed to tell her the ocean belonged to everyone and to get off her high horse with this "leave" bullshit.
As I swam towards the shore, I scanned the water beneath me. A few large triggerfish were floating aimlessly around the reefs, their oversized dorsal and pectoral fins flopping around stupidly. Parrotfish dotted the reefs as well, their iridescent pink, purple and green scales catching the light as the meandered along. Other smaller fish came and went into crevices in the coral of the reef, and tiny white jellyfish floated in and out in front of my mask. Everything was peaceful here, nothing amiss among the colorful reefs and perfect expanse of white sand.
I estimated I was probably about a hundred yards from the shore now, and since the water level was getting much more shallow, I knew the beach wasn't far off. I surfaced, treading water directly beneath me with my fins, and pulled off my mask.
I found the house just in time to see the woman who was waving us away engaged in conversation with someone else, a new figure. I had to keep up a steady pace with my fins pulsing beneath me to stay above the surface enough to see the pair, but immediately noticed something was off.
The woman in black was facing away from me, looking at this other person, and now her hands were raised in front of her in what I immediately registered was a surrender. My eyes widened as I watched the scene unfold from the silence of the waves, the two seemed to be arguing. I could not hear what they were saying from my watery hiding spot, but I kept up the pace with my fins long enough to see the new figure raise their arm and bring it down quickly towards the other woman's head, striking her - and saw her fall immediately to the floor.
I gasped as she fell, which was my first mistake, - my mouth was right at the surface of the water at this point- and I simultaneously took in a huge gulp of salty water. As I choked and spat out the water, I lost sight of the figures on the balcony. I tried to find Kyle while I gasped for air, spluttering, but could not see him. I knew I had to get back to the boat, so I swam as fast as I could back toward the rope stretching up from the reef - our anchor. I knew now the woman had been motioning for us to go and get help, not to leave. The other thing I knew was that I had not been seen, and it was a stroke of luck we had been in the water when the assailant attacked the woman.
I reached the ladder at the back of the boat and heaved myself up and into the vessel as quickly as I could while still wearing fins. I threw my mask and snorkel into the dive bag and immediately spun around to face the house.
The two figures were gone.
Confused, I rushed to the edge of the boat closest to the shore, grabbing onto the railing to hold myself up as I leaned out as far as I could, squinting at the house. Yes, they were most definitely gone.
The sound of water splashing startled me, and I turned to see Kyle pulling himself up over the dive platform at the back of the boat. He pulled off his fins and mask, shaking his head wildly back and forth to spray salt water in my direction. He smiled up at me, but his smile faded immediately when his gaze found mine.
"Are you ok? What did I miss?" he asked, standing to grab my face between his hands, obviously worried about my horrified expression.
"That woman... she... he was.... something is wrong," I said, frustrated at my own stumbling effort to explain the situation.
"Whoa whoa. Calm down. Something happened to the crazy old bitch?" He asked, gesturing in the general direction of the house, not taking his eyes off of mine.
"Yes," I said, taking a steadying breath, "she was still waving us away when someone else came outside. They got into a scuffle and he hit her. She went down... hard. Then I tried to get back here to be able to see and maybe call for help, but now they're both gone," I said quickly.
We stared at each other for maybe another three seconds before I continued, "I'm going to call for help on the radio." I walked past him for the captain's chair and reached up next to the GPS system to dislodge the radio from the dash.
"Wh... what do you mean?" Kyle rushed up behind me to snatch the radio out of my hand. "They're not gone. Look, there's someone up there right now," he said, pointing up to the railing of the beach house. I slowly turned to face the house, praying it was the woman, hoping she was alright.
There, in the middle of the porch and facing towards us, was the other figure, the one was sure I had seen attack the woman. The figure stood perfectly still, perfectly straight. Time seemed to slow down to a crawl as we stared up toward the unnaturally motionless figure. How long had they been standing there? I hadn't seen them just a moment ago when I was straining over the edge of the boat....
Suddenly, we heard a mournful call come across the water from the direction of the beach house.
"I'm sorrrrrryyyyy....... I'm SOOOORRRRYYYYYYY," it grew louder as it repeated over and over again.
The figure remained motionless, making it impossible to tell if the cry came from them, or somewhere else. The just stood and.... stared in our direction.
I frantically looked to Kyle for answers, but he just continued to stare at the figure.
Who was sorry? What were they apologizing to us for? I was sure we hadn't been seen in the water when the scuffle took place.... or had we? The call droned on and on, each new "sorry" making the situation more and more eerie.
"What are you sorry for?!" Kyle yelled, cupping his hands suddenly around his mouth to answer the call, which was still sounding out, as if it were being played on repeat.
Almost immediately, the call was cut short. The repetitive groaning apology stopped mid-sentence. Simultaneously, the figure turned quickly on their heel and walked into the darkened doorway of the house, leaving us alone with nothing but the sound of the waves lapping gently against the shore for an answer.

Just Another Job...

((This is just a quick and poorly written piece intended to better characterize some of Adam Wade's skills, and the kind of jobs he generally does. I'll probably expand on this in the future, because right now Adam is a little one dimensional as a character. If there's something you think I need to improve on, constructive criticism is appreciated.))
A tall, dark haired human exited his taxi and stepped onto the dark streets of New Cousteau. He gave a lazy wave of his metal right arm, depositing the credits he owed his Batarian cabby as he drove off into the night to pick up his next customer.
To most, Trident woulds seem like a paradise compared to the rest of the Terminus, but things are rarely as they seem on this side of the galaxy. Beneath the veneer of a tropical paradise was a lawless world run by less than ethical corporations looking to escape Citadel regulations, and the mercenaries they hired to do their dirty work.
Omega with a breeze he thought to himself. Adam Wade spent quite a bit of time on planets like Trident, doing one job or another. Sometimes he was contracted for a simple sabotage or snatch and grab. Other times, the jobs were more messy. This particular job was one of the latter.
Adam had been contracted to kill a certain hanar "entrepreneur" by the name of Velescan. Or at least that's his "face name" or whatever the hell the hanar call it. Apparently this hanar made the mistake of opening up his own red sand distribution ring in the back of a local nightclub without the consent of the local chapter of Eclipse. It didn't really matter to Wade; he had already received the first half of his payment for this job. All that was left was to kill the stupid jellyfish and collect the rest of his money. Easier said than done.
He pulled a cigarette from the pack situated in his pocket and held it between his lips. With one quick motion he brought his synthetic right hand up to his face and snapped his fingers. A small flame jumped from the tip of his metal thumb and lit the end of the cigarette situated between his lips. Adam took a long drag, and started off towards his objective.
Adam approached the front door of Endless Shores Bar and Casino, cutting front of the long line of people waiting to get in, and slipped the human bouncer a 500 credit chit. The bouncer raised an eyebrow, but just nodded and showed him in. As Adam entered the club he could hear the dissatisfaction of the would be customers he had cut in front of to make his entrance, and a small smirk crawled across his face.
Once inside the interior of the busy night club, Adam found himself assaulted by the heavy bass of the electronic music being played. He noticed several club goers passed out on the dance floor, probably high on hallex or red sand by the looks of it. Ugh, let's just get this over with. As his eyes adjusted to the dim light, he made his way towards a door in the back labeled "VIP ONLY" guarded by a large Krogan bouncer.
"Sorry human, private pa-" but before the massive alien could finish his sentence, Adam drew a modified Carnifex heavy pistol and fired three quick shots upwards underneath the Krogan's chin. The Krogan fell to the ground, bleeding from his wounds. He'll probably live, but he's definitely not getting up anytime soon. Thanks to the suppressor on his Carnifex the sound of the gunshots weren't loud enough to be noticed over the dance music blasting throughout the club. This will probably be a little less subtle. He thought to himself as he attached a small circular device approximately three inches in diameter to the door's electronic lock. He took a step back and activated the omnitool built into his cybernetic arm. 3... 2... 1 He hit a button on his omnitool and the device emitted a high pitch screech followed by the crackling sound of the overloaded lock of the door.
As the door fell open, Adam extended his right arm, placing his left hand against his cybernetic shoulder in order to brace for the recoil of the 40mm grenade launcher concealed in his prosthetic arm. His metal wrist flipped upwards, revealing the barrel and launching a tear gas round into the cramped VIP room. He stepped into the cloud of smoke to search for his target, his bio-synthetic ocular implants immune to the irritating chemical of the tear gas grenade. The gas shouldn't be lethal but should disable anyone in here long enough so I- Before he could finish his thought he found himself narrowly dodging a bioticly charged punch from the hanar's drell bodyguard, the reptilian alien apparently unaffected by the tear gas. Unfortunately for the drell, the move left him off balance, and Adam quickly reacted, sweeping the drell's legs out from under him and drawing his carnifex. Before the drell could react, Adam pulled the trigger, leaving the drell dead with a hole between his eyes.
"P-please! S-show mercy on this one!" the hanar stuttered as Adam began to walk towards the defenseless alien creature. "It's nothing personal." Adam told the hanar with a grin as he replaced the heatsink of his carnifex. "Its just another job." As the words left his lips, he let loose two quick squeezes of the trigger, and the hanar's world went black.
